The plant contains a large number of active elements, including acids, alkaloids, iron, tin, essential oils, and resins. The flavonoids in the herb act as antispasmodics. The composition of red centaury also includes gentianin with anthelmintic action, bitter glycosides, essential oil, and other components that determine its main properties and effects. Thanks to these, the herb increases appetite, stimulates the secretion of digestive glands and intestines, and has a choleretic effect.
