The Heiniger 31/15 blade set is a set of screw-on blades for clipping a horse with a clean coat. The set consists of a bottom blade and a top blade that you screw onto the clipper together, and it clips at 2 to 4 mm. That leaves a short, tidy coat without clipping the horse bare. About this blade A screw-on blade set works differently from a snap-on blade set. You screw two separate blades onto the clipper: the bottom blade is the fixed comb that lies against the skin, the top blade moves across it. The two blades are run in against each other, so you use them as a pair and not separately. The first number in the designation stands for the bottom blade, and that is what determines the cutting height. The second number stands for the moving top blade and does not change the cutting length. On this 31/15 the cutting height therefore comes from the 31 bottom blade: 2 to 4 mm. In the shop this item is listed as 3 mm, which falls within that range. An F after the first number means the bottom blade is finer and clips about half as long. The 31F/15 and the 31F/23 come out at 1 to 2 mm that way. If you want a neater result on a fine-coated horse, that is the set you are looking for; if you want an ordinary winter clip with some coat left on, this 31/15 will do. Important when ordering: screw-on blades belong to the Heiniger clippers that work with that system, such as the Xperience, the Xplorer and the Progress. They do not fit a Heiniger Saphir or Opal. Those machines use snap-on blade sets, which you click on complete in one movement.
