Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, called the "Queen of Fashion," was born in 1883 in the town of Saumur in western France. As early as 1912, she opened her first salon and soon became a famous fashion designer, and by the mid-20th century, she set the trends of haute couture, with the Chanel brand worn by celebrities such as Jacqueline Kennedy and Grace Kelly.
